Katie Merritt is a public health & policy researcher specializing in both labor trends, environmental health, and food & agriculture policy. She received her masters in public health (MPH) in Environmental and Occupational Health in Washington, DC, where she worked on capitol hill advocating for food safety and conservation issues with a sustainable agriculture coalition.
An accomplished researcher with experience in academic and non-profit sectors, she currently runs a team of data scientists focused on the future of work and quantifying the value of in-demand skills as it pertains to base compensation. Previously she ran the research team for a national non-profit designing and implementing evaluations for large-scale programs addressing food insecurity in low-income communities. While there, she spearheaded the first-ever randomized controlled trial to determine the optimal amount of money that programs should offer when matching food stamps for additional fruits and vegetables.
Before pursuing environmental health, Katie was introduced to the local foods movement in Colorado where she volunteered at local farms and regularly hosted potlucks. Her favorite personal projects include gardening, crafting, and leading urban hikes, hyper-local food and drink tours in Texas, California, and beyond.
